Historic Curatorship Program

Through DCR’s Historic Curatorship Program, outside parties rehabilitate, reuse and maintain some of the Commonwealth’s most significant historic properties in return for credit toward a long-term lease, returning unused properties to active use.

A model for municipalities nationwide, this innovative program has leveraged more than $10 million in private funds toward the long-term preservation of some of the state’s significant historic resources.  To date, sixteen properties have been rehabilitated or are currently under rehabilitation under the program, from the peaks of the Berkshires to the urban streets of Dorchester.  In addition to the major rehabilitation of important public assets, these Curatorships provide additional benefits to park visitors and the citizens of the Commonwealth – including a nonprofit youth center, a mountaintop lodge, a house museum, and a wedding and events facility.   a link to more information
