Progress in the Shipyard – March 24, 2021

Thank you, Bristol Marine, for sharing the latest news of the great work your crew is accomplishing during the pre-launch fitting out of Ernestina~Morrissey! And thank you to Robert Mitchell of Mitchell Photography for the great photos!  In the attached series of photos, you will see progress on the restoration of the Ernestina~Morrissey at Bristol Marine’s Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor.  Currently, all work on the Ernestina~Morrissey at the Shipyard is being funded through the generosity of the Lenfest Family.

1. Fine Tuning

Fine Tuning: Bill Kemp is carefully arranging the new soft generator mounts before permanently placing the new starboard generator. This mounting procedure will reduce noise and vibration resulting in a nicer experience onboard and longer lifespan for the engines. Photo Credit: Robert Mitchell of Mitchell Photography

2. Fitting Hardware

Fitting Hardware: Our lead Shipwright David Short is finishing a detailed installation of the sliding hatchway for the Engine Room deck house. Just a few hardware details are all that remain for the three primary deck houses. We welcome the warmer weather for exterior projects like this. 3. Foc’sle with Table

Foc'sle with Table: Here is an image of the final "dry-fit" of the folding-leaf table in the Foc'sle. Jason Brassard worked very hard to build this table to match the original parameters, and we are all very pleased with his work. Robert Mitchell of Mitchell Photography

4. Plumbing Continues

Plumbing Continues: Bill Kemp, Chris Bernett, and Mike Beauregard are deep into the details of the Engine Room plumbing system. The interplay of plumbing systems has been a complicated task to manage. With the help of 3D computer design, this crew has been able to install each line of pipe and hose to within inches of their specified locations. 5. Woodshop Activity

Woodshop Activity: Kaz Buozys is busy in the woodshop preparing oak trim for the Main Cabin bunks. These trim pieces are turning out beautifully. 6. Restored Compass

Restored Compass: Viking Instruments of Kingston, MA has recently delivered the freshly restored ship's compass. Very soon, the African Mahogany compass box inside the Aft Cabin of Ernestina will be installed and ready to receive this lovely piece of schooner jewelry.
