We’ll Haul Away Together!

Sailing on Schooner Adventure last month was the first time some of us had laid a hand on a halyard of a tall ship in a long time.  That trip raised $3,600 toward Ernestina-Morrissey’s new fisherman staysail. There were chanteys sung to help the effort as the sails went up. As I began to write this report, I thought of our kick-off post “All Hands to the Halyards” and the refrain of a chantey came to mind. “Away, haul away, we’ll haul away together!”  Many of you have contributed to help SEMA meet its commitment to pay for the new sails, and we have made good progress toward our goal.

Chris Parks sponsored the main gaff topsail and Chuck Smiler sponsored the “jumbo”,  (fore staysail).

the mainsail with only $1,193 left to raise. The Homeport New Bedford group has raised over $8,000 toward their pledge to raise $25,000 for the foresail and there is already over $5,000 donated for the fisherman’s staysail, dedicated to Cape Ann. There have been donations dedicated to all of Ernestina-Morrissey’s lives including Bartlett and Maritime.
