William Street “Bow to Stern” Festival
This free, family-friendly festival will prove to be alive with laughter, music, and art, running in conjunction with the celebration of commercial fishing culture. Come learn about the city’s fishing heritage, in the exhibit “Big Boats, Little Boats” at the Fishing Heritage Center. Take part in walking tours of the harbor, demonstrations, dockside vessel tours, film screenings, author readings, see exhibits ranging from folk to contemporary art, and enjoy live music. There will be Art, theatre, music in the Churches , and craftsman and vendors in the Upper William Street Area. There will be a closing concert at Seaman’s Bethel! The festival also gives audiences one more chance to glimpse Silver Current, a skynet soaring above Custom House Square made from hand woven fishing nets and thousands of mylar streamers created by world-renown artist Patrick Shearn of
Poetic Kinetics.
AHA!, The Collective NB, Gallery X, Massachusetts Design Art & Technology Institute (DATMA), New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, Your Theatre INC, Steeple Playhouse, First Unitarian Church, New Bedford Pottery Works , The City of New Bedford and many others have combined efforts to help showcase this city’s incredible talent, culture, and diversity.
On Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 10am – 6pm, events will take place along William Street starting at the First Unitarian Church on Eighth Street and heading down William Street to Bethel Street, with additional events on Steamship Pier. Festival participants will park in the lower lot and adjacent private lots (pending approval of owners). Visitors will be encouraged to park on the streets adjacent to the site and in the Elm Street Garage.
