General Statement of Duties: The Chief Engineer / Motor Equipment Operator IV position will fulfill
long term needs with a focus on continuity and ship board safety. SSV Ernestina Morrissey is a
mechanically complex vessel. This position will support the mission and ongoing mechanical maintenance
of the Schooner Ernestina Morrissey whether the ship is underway or at the dock. The Engineer has a key
role in emergency preparedness, including, bringing emergency pumps online, securing necessary
electrical systems and assisting in the rescue vessel with the Chief Mate for persons over board
emergencies. The engineer will conduct routine maintenance, develop inspection protocols and develop
maintenance procedure manuals for the weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly required maintenance. Also,
the engineer will be required to conduct the monthly safety inspections and drills with the ship’s crew. This
position may also assist in the engineering maintenance of MMA’s other vessels but with the priority of
Ernestina Morrissey’s requirements first.

Qualifications: knowledge and use of maintenance, repair and operation of internal combustion engines, diesel
engines, 2 and 4 cycle engines, hydraulic lifts, bumper jacks, grinders, buffers, welding equipment, and air
tools. Skill in the use of hand held tools and heavy equipment, precision measuring equipment, and oxyacetylene gas welding equipment. Knowledge of storage of hazardous materials.
